Muskaan began not as an organization, but as a shared feeling — a quiet urgency felt by a group of individuals from different walks of life, united by one belief: that a better world begins with care.
It started with Sanju Kumari and Mamta Kumari, two sisters, both devoted teachers and lifelong volunteers. Sanju had spent years deeply engaged in community welfare and environmental stewardship, quietly planting trees and nurturing people with equal care. Mamta, equally grounded and hands-on, had been involved in social work, education, and rural support initiatives — always choosing to act where others hesitated. Their compassion was not performative — it was practice. Daily, lived, and local.
Their paths aligned with Praveen Kumar, a journalist who had spent years amplifying unheard voices, uncovering injustice, and documenting stories from the ground that never made it to prime time. He reminded them that action without awareness could only go so far.
Soon after, Sneh Raj Gupta, a lawyer who chose to serve as a Nyay Mitra rather than chase high-paying jobs, brought legal access to villages — solving disputes, guiding the poor through courts, and protecting those often left behind by the system.
Completing this circle of conscience was Renu Kumari, a professor deeply invested in shaping the next generation. Her classrooms were not just about curriculum, but about cultivating responsible citizens who understood people, planet, and purpose.
Together, they recognized a powerful truth: the problems around us are deeply connected — and so must be the solutions. From inequality to illiteracy, from animal suffering to environmental degradation — every issue calls for humanity, not just policy.
And so, in 2024, Muskaan was born. Not just as an NGO, but as a collective movement rooted in empathy, education, justice, and sustainability.
Today, Muskaan works across multiple domains — supporting vulnerable communities, caring for animals, protecting nature — all through one simple goal: to restore smiles where they’ve been forgotten.
Because for this group, and for Muskaan, every smile is a sign of change.
